Needle Size: US 6, DPNs or 16" Circular AND US 7 DPNS and/or 16" Circular
In retrospect, the circular knitting needles would have been easier for the bulk of the project.
These are the colors that Kirk Ryan Jr's mother picked out

Cast on 64 stitches. I used knitted cast on method.
Divide stitches among 4 DPNS, you should have 16 stitches on each needle.
Since these stitches will have to be picked up and knitted later, I went ahead and ran some blue thread through them, using a tapestry needle, to make them easier to pick up later.
Join in the round, placing a stitch marker after the first stitch.
Rows 1-15 - Knit entire row. The work should measure about 2 inches.

Ear Flaps
Note: ear gaps are done in short rows/wrap and turn.
