Original Pattern: http://itsastringthing.wordpress.com/2010/09/21/simple-knit-ball/

Cast 8 stitches onto a single double pointed needle. I used size 8 needles and a christmas print of "I love this yarn" at hobby lobby.

Transfer 2 stitches to another double pointed knitting needle from side opposite the tail and working yarn

Transfer next 2 stitches to a third double pointed knitting needle from the side opposite the tail and working yarn.

transfer the next 2 stitches onto a 4th double pointed knitting needle from the side opposite the tail and working yarn

Using a 5th needle, join in the round. Knit 1 stitch and place a marker so you know where needle 1 is. Knit the remainder of row 1.

For row 2, knit a stitch, then make a stitch all the way around. You will now have 4 stitches per needle, for a total of 16 stitches.

Basic Koozie

Note: I found that size 8 double pointed needles made this koozie a bit too big for a soda can. It fits a larger ceramic coffee mug fairly well. I plan on trying this project again with smaller needles.

Needle Size: US 8, 5 DPNs

How to knit on double pointed needles video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9OrDriAmtI
Note: I didn't do the slipknot thing.

Cast on 40 stitches onto a single DPN or a circular knitting needle if you think your DPNs are too short. I like cable cast on method for this project.

Transfer 10 stitches to each of the 4 needles. Join in the round, being careful not to twist the work, and placing a marker after the first stitch so you know where needle 1 is.

NOTE: Ribbing would be nice!!!!

Rows 1-26 - Knit. Your work should be about 3.5 inches high/long.

Row 27 - Purl (Yarn should be in front!)

Row 28 - k8, k2tog each needle. (Yarn should be in back!) You will now have 9 stitches per needle for a total of 36 stitches.

Row 29 - Purl

Row 30 - k7, k2tog each needle. You will now have 8 stitches per needle for a total of 32 stitches.

Row 31 - Purl

Row 32 - k6, k2tog each needle. You will now have 7 stitches per needle for a total of 28 stitches.

Row 33 - Purl

Row 34 - k5, k2tog each needle. You will now have 6 stitches per needle for a total of 24 stitches.

Row 35 - Purl

Row 36 - k4, k2tog each needle. You will now have 5 stitches per needle for a total of 20 stitches.

Row 37 - Purl

Row 38 - k3, k2tog each needle. You will now have 4 stitches per needle for a total of 16 stitches.

Row 39 - Purl

Row 40 - k2, k2tog each needle. You will now have 3 stitches per needle for a total of 12 stitches.

Row 41 - Purl

Row 42 - k1, k2tog each needle. You will now have 2 stitches per needle for a total of 8 stitches.

Row 43 - Purl

Row 44 - k2tog each needle. You will now have 1 stitch per needle for a total of 4 stitches.

Cut the working yarn, leaving about a 12" tail and thread a needle. Run the needle through the remaining stitches and drop down the center of the work so you can cinche it shut and tie it off on the inside.
